Since Souter’s announcement, Granholm – a former federal prosecutor and Michigan’s first woman attorney general – has been mentioned as among those who might be a candidate for the job.
If she got the job, though, it would be a departure from recent practice in appointing Supreme Court justices. None of the current members were governors.
The White House didn’t immediately respond to a call for comment on the list. And the governor’s spokeswoman, Liz Boyd, said she would offer “no new comment on anything related to speculation on a possible appointment by the Obama administration."
